The Texas Hold'Em Blinds
In many casinos, and online poker sites, the new player that enters the game has to post a large blind if the player wishes to be dealt in the next hand. But this is not compulsory and the player may choose to wait until it is his turn to be the large blind before he enters the game.
Should the player wait, or should the player post right away? Many players are so eager that they don't want to wait. When the players play in a live game in a card room it will take them about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on where the button is; if they play online they usually have to wait.
Some players don't realize that waiting has a few advantages. Waiting can give players the time to observe the competition and identify the type of opponents; take note also the quality of the beginning hands being played, and who are the ones playing them. Observing the table while the player waits will give them an insight about their competition and game.
Waiting can also give the player a few minutes to sink in and prepare the mind before the game begins.
Playing online will give the player an advantage. When the player play online, he will also have the option of whether to post right away or wait for a large blind. Most poker sites have a button that the player can click to wait for a large blind. There is also an advantage when playing online that is called "Past Posting".
Rather than posting immediately or even waiting for a large blind, sit out until the button passes the player. That is the right time to enter the game. The player is now posting the large blind but they are doing so in a late position. There is also an advantage of playing the blinds, being in a late position before the card flops, but the disadvantage of this is being in an early position after the flop. After the player waits until the button passes them, it is the time now to enter the game in a later position, with the selection to check or raise, when it is the player's turn. The player is now second to the last after the flop, this put the player in an extremely nice position. The player still has several games until the blinds get back to the player.
